Party in the city where the heat is on...

So A and I spent last weekend in Miami. We stayed with A's friends from Yale, Kathleen and Derek. Unfortunately, we didn't even get to see Derek because he had to go to Milan for work (lucky!) but we did get to spend some time with Kathleen. I think if Kathleen and I lived in the same city (or even the same state) we would be great friends. She and A are very much alike, both trained as stage managers, both totally OCD and obsessed with making lists. All the reasons I love A and also the reasons he entertains me to no end:)

So Kathleen and Derek live in between Miami and Miami Beach on an island that is connected to the two by a causeway. Very cool. Kathleen works for the Miami City Ballet and got us tickets to go see them on Sunday afternoon. We came at a good time because they were premiering a new piece that they commissioned called "Nightspot". Choreography by Twyla Tharp and music by Elvis Costello. It was excellent. It was also very intoxicating to be around dance again. I didn't realize how much I miss it till I was standing backstage watching the company warm up.

We also went to see the Cleveland Orchestra play in the same performing arts center on Saturday night. A has heard them before, but I hadn't. They are a great. orchestra. Just fantastic. We also got invited to the after concert reception and met some of the musicians and the conductor.

We also got to spend two whole days on the beach. It was so nice, I can't even tell you how wonderful it felt. We drove down to South Beach and rented lounge chairs and an umbrella. The only thing missing was pool boys bringing me drinks... ooh, honeymoon flashbacks... :) I laid there for the longest time doing nothing. Not reading, or listening to music, or talking to anyone. Just laid there, doing nothing. It was fabulous.

A on the beach looking cute...

I miss this ocean already...

I also started a new book called Friday Night Knitting Club. It's a great beach read. I'm not done yet but so far, its a great book (don't worry, you don't need to know how to knit to read it!)

While we were gone, our good friend Kim was looking after the buns and Princess Chloe. They get to stay at home as they all get really stressed when they have to leave. Henry, on the other hand, was off at camp (AKA the boarding facility outside the city that is so luxury its ridiculous). The camp he goes to is near a huge park and is next to a horse farm. They have doggy play group every day and he gets one-on-one play time, which usually includes playing fetch or going for walks. I swear he doesn't want to come home when I go pick him up.

Wow, what a start to the trip!!! I'm glad that you got there safe! I've never had that happen, where a pilot attempts to land and then has to try again, but I've heard that it is extremely scary.

Sounds like Miami was fun and warm! Must have been a nice break from the snow & cold!
